What is GORUCK Scavenger?
It's part team-building, part city tour, and all fun. Learn more here: https://www.goruck.com/scavenger/
What makes these events “Ingress” related?
You will form teams with your fellow Resistance or Enlightened or XFAC friends for some good old-fashioned competition, exercise, and fun. You will have Ingress-themed objectives to complete and you will try to earn 1st or 2nd place.
How long do the Operation Clear Field events last?
4 to 5 hours
What is the service component, or charity component, to these events?
Each event will have at least one team-objective to complete that involves service to a park or public space in the city/town where the event will take place.
Are Ingress missions included?
Completing a mission or series of missions MAY be a part of your “Hit List” (you receive your Hit List at the Start Point), be prepared with your Scanner, just in case.
Are minors or children allowed to participate?
Minors are only permitted if accompanied by an adult.
How does my team “score points” and win?
You'll create an Instagram account for your team, with your team name. Only one person needs to run it per team and we suggest that the person running it has an unlimited data plan.
You will use your team’s Instagram account and photograph/video your team accomplishing different tasks, which you will tag with the Ingress/GORUCK account (@goruckingress).
GORUCK will score your submissions, and in the end, the team with the highest points total (“cool points”) wins the coveted Gold Patch. 2nd place wins Silver.
Is there any weight requirement?
There is no ruck or team weight requirement for this event.
Mission Day Questions
Niantic is hosting registration for a select few days during the #OpClearField series. These are called Mission Days and offer additional activities in addition to the Scavenger. Please visit those pages in order to register. You will be redirected from our site, if applicable. Niantic can provide support for those events through the Contact the Organization form located at the bottom right hand of each page.
How will the teams be split up for the OCF Scavenger events?
Teams are made by the players, beforehand or on site, in groups of 4-8 people. You don't need to pre-register your team, that will all be taken care of at the event. However, you will need to register as an individual, and more information on that is below.
If you attend without a team, no worries as the Cadre will work you into one of the already formed teams. We just require 3 teams for each OCF Scavenger event.
OCF Scavenger event transfer requests
If you are unable to attend the OCF Scavenger you're signed up for and you would prefer to attend another OCF Scavenger, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will update your event registration for you. Please note that OCF Scavenger event transfers cannot be applied to the Mission Day events, since the Mission Day is a separate event from the OCF Scavenger and hosted and supported by Niantic. You are more than welcome to RSVP for the Mission Day events in addition to your OCF Scavenger event!
There's a GORUCK/INGRESS OP: CLEAR FIELD event scheduled on my local Mission Day. How will this work?
They are two events running at the same time! You will receive a separate scanner badge for each event, one for OP: CLEAR FIELD and one for Mission Day. You will need to fulfill the requirements for each, which will include finishing the scavenger hunt AND completing a set number of Mission Day scanner missions. If you don't feel like doing both in one day, sign up for an OP: Clear Field event nearby on Friday or Sunday.
There are multiple events in one weekend in my region. What's that about? Which should I attend?
They are all OP: Clear Field events, but they will be a little different from event to event. You can earn multiple patches by doing multiple events. Sign up for multiple events or for the one that is most convenient for you.
What will the game play be like? Do I need to train for this?
You and your team (RES, ENL, or XFAC) get an old school printed-out Hit List from an on-the-ground GORUCK representative called a Cadre. Your team then strategically plans to earn the most points and explore the best spots around - Ingressing and Instagramming and earning "Cool Points" as you go. Hit list could include Ingress Game Portals, local points of interest, bars, restaurants, puppies, kittens, the beach, other teams, and much more, including quick impact service actions.
No training is required for these events.
How much walking is involved? Do I need to wear a ruck + weight plate? Can anyone do this?
Yes, there is walking involved, but you can anticipate it will be less walking than an anomaly. Your play box is as big or as small as you want to make it. Everyone is encouraged to play at their own pace and join the fun. No weight, plate, or bricks are required, but rucks/backpacks are encouraged.
What do I get for completing this? I heard rumor of a scanner badge or patches?
Both! You will receive a GORUCK Scavenger patch for completing the challenge. There is a gold and silver version for teams with the most points. There is also an OP: Clear Field patch that will be given out. Niantic will be awarding all participants with a shiny OP: Clear Field scanner badge. It will be pushed after the event.
This sounds like fun. How do I find out where and when this is happening? Do I need to register?
Yes, you need to register to play and to receive the scanner badge. There is a fee of $25 + $5 insurance fee to register, with all proceeds going to the National Parks Foundation.
